COME MEET THE AUTHOR!
Join us for a fun, educational cultural event and book signing of “Across the Threshold of India: Art, Women, and Culture” by Martha A.Strawn. The book is a photographic art book with accompanying texts and introductions by Kapila Vatsyayan and Mark. H. Sloan, along with a historical essay by William K. Mahony.
Martha spent 40 years traveling back and forth to India, capturing the sacred mandalas in the thresholds of the prayer temples. Along with the photography, Martha recorded the history of the women from India sharing their purpose of passing down the mandala-wisdom to their daughters and granddaughters.
Come enjoy a glass of wine and hors d’oeuvres before the show begins, and bring your kids to create their own flour-mandala at our hands-on art table. Enjoy receiving a healing blessing from the Deeksha Oneness Blessing givers along with India music performed by The Ensemble. Martha will be giving a fun, educational slideshow presentation of what it was like bringing this first-of-its-kind historical book of India into fruition. A book signing by the author will follow the presentation.
The evening is supported by the City of Gainesville’s Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs – a CAPRA accredited agency
